On her birthday, a few of us gathered to eat some chocolate cake around her which she was totally unimpressed by. We also waved some tacky birthday balloons at her, but she answered with a yawn and some shut eye.
However, over the last few days she has been given to some new glancing movements, moving her head towards the window and the ever growing display of cards! Each of the lovely photos you guys have sent in have also had her captivated, sometimes for several minutes.
One reason Mary has been so tired has been due to an infection in her leg from the external fixings. These have now been totally removed and instead Mary has some traction on her legs whilst we wait to see what the Drs want to do more permanently.
All this stuff with the legs has been pretty tiring for her. Added to this, having all this done to her legs means less sitting up with physios. That results in her being less able to clear her chest herself, coughing making her really tired and thus needing to remain with the trachestomy. Whilst the trachy is in, its also proving difficult to look at where she can progress to rehab, but the Drs are all working on it...
Mary Bowers, have a hug. Iain x
