Mary had a difficult weekend. She had a high heart rate,
high blood pressure and was a little sick. It’s still not clear exactly why she
had such a hard time, and Drs have confirmed there is no further infection. It
could be that this kind of reaction is still part of her brain injury. It certainly isn't that she's just had too much cake.
However Mary has been much calmer this week and more
‘eye-openy'. Its hard to tell if the ‘one blink for yes, two blinks for no’
method is one she understands or is using. Either way we like to have a ‘blink
off’ most evenings (similar to a dance off but less strenuous).
In the days ahead Mary should be having a scan on the pins
on her legs to see if they are ready to come out… we all hope so! The tracheostomy
progress still has a way to go…
On 11th April its Mary’s birthday. Drinking games are out this year but Mary has taken
to liking photos … we think (either she is intrigued trying to focus
things stuck under her nose, or she is gently humouring us). So if you would
like to do something for her birthday but haven’t a clue what would be useful, do
send Mary a picture of you – or you and her together - with a few words on. It
could be a memory or a joke or whatever. But nothing that makes me embarrassed when I read it please ex-boyfriends, I already have a reputation on that ward (none so much as the flasher visitor, but she remains namelesss for now...)
If you can laminate these photos it makes them so much
more likely to stand up to the hospital’s cleaning regime and means Mary will
be able to keep them around her bed. You can send them to: Laura Fawcett, 34
Tramway Court, 3 Candle Street, E1 4RR
Thanks.
Laura,
ReplyDeleteMary always told me that, whenever she was feeling down, a visit to my house in Lancashire lifted her spirits. We corresponded every day and many times every day - whether by email, text or phone. Do you think a photo of the room we called 'Mary's room' in my house might be a good thing to send to you? I will do it in an instant if you think it would be something Mary would like to see.
Best wishes,
Helen Nugent, Hotspur and Connie cats
