Movements

As part of her brain injury Mary does not have very much, if any, movement in her joints. It is hoped that through rehab this will improve over time. Daily exercises the physio does with her aim to improve this. One is a special bed table she is put on. This supports her and allows her to be fully supported standing up. She is usually still quite sleepy in this process, as she doesn't have to do alot! Sometimes if her feet are bearing any weight it becomes quite painful. All of this process of pushing herself is quite painful, and she could really do with the Rocky theme tune at times like this to spur her on...

On the weekend Kate (Mary’s cousin) and I were very impressed when Mary responded to us rubbing lotion into her feet with some toe curling! It had occurred to me when I had done it numerous times before that this action must tickle - and Mary has very sensitive feet! I had been disappointed that there wasn’t a smile or any foot movement at all previously. So we were really encouraged by this little action and have to admit that we did tickle her feet a few times just to check she was still doing it. Hopefully she will get us back for that one of these days….
