Today we were able to meet with the doctor, physio, OT,
nurses and speech and language therapist at Mary’s rehab. Mary has had 3 infections
since being at Putney, apparently this is a regular occurrence with brain
injuries as the body finds it much much harder to fight infection. All these
infections have been treated (chest infection continues to be treated)
and Mary has fought them off and responded well to antibiotics. Those visiting
Mary will have noticed how especially tired she has been during these times. On some days its been difficult to see progress in all her fatigue, coughing, high temperatures and general sickness, but we have tried to remember its the long journey we are in this for and there will continue to be many hurdles along the way.
Mary’s assessment of her movement and neurology has been put on hold whilst she finishes what we hope is her last course of antibiotics for a while. Then the hope is that Mary can be at her optimum level before her assessments are continued. That means we
continue to be patient. We continue to chat and read to Mary, to play her music (the CDs making their way in are certainly 'eclectic' :), to jolly along her sleepy self.... and ourselves. Dad brought in a DVD
player and ‘Life of Brian’ today. No doubt this will do the trick. In the words of Brian; 'always look on the bright side of life....' - feel free to continue with suitable whistling...
Dear Laura, stay strong and look after yourself as well as Mary.
