On Tuesday 1st Jan Mary responded to 2013 in a rather opinionated manner. When two of her carers asked if they could leave her to see another patient, she responded with an outright 'No!'. They asked her again if it would be okay for one of them to leave and she replied 'No!'. They asked a third time and she said 'No!' Of course we are not surprised that this should be the first word to grace Mary's lips in over a year, she has never been backwards in coming forwards when it comes to making her feelings known!

On Wednesday she had a bath and the carers said that she was smiling, something that we haven't seen her do in quite a while. Today I popped in with Aahana, Bea and James and we found ourselves having to change Aahana's nappy in Mary's room. Aahana always seems to produce particullarly smelly nappies around her auntie Mary, and as I explained this to Mary with Aahana's smelly backside in the air, Mary appeared to let out a little giggle.
