Life Expectancy

There has been an article on the BBC website and a recent TV news broadcast which has included a reference to Mary's life expectancy. Its important to say that no doctor has actually passed any opinion - medical or not - specifically on Mary's life expectancy. This information was taken out of context.

There has been research done into life expectancy of people who have suffered brain injuries and the comment was published/broadcast with reference to this. This research is infact 10 years old. As such it does not take account of current advances in medicine. It also cites that fatalities tended to occur as a result of infection, which is unpredictable in itself. This must also be accepted in the context that brain injury is vastly complex and that every brain injury is also very different. Due to this the family did express a wish that this information was not included in the broadcast. This was unfortunately disregarded.

We have no sure way of knowing how long we will have Mary with us any more than we know how long you or I will live. As such we make the most of everyday we do have, and all the people caring for Mary at the moment are certainly making sure of that.
