Easter Update

Sometimes it seems like progress is very slow, but thinking back even to last Easter, Mary has come such a long way. She is now awake for much longer periods, far more alert and seems to be trying to speak and make sounds when people speak to her. With her new haircut (the bleach is waiting till after her crainoplasty), new glasses and a reunion with her jewellery collection, she seems to be looking a lot more like Mary!

Mary has got over her recent chest infection, although her health has been a little up and down over this long wintery period. She successfully had some more botox in her fingers and toes (!) two weeks ago which we are hoping helps with Mary's movement. Her feet are still pointing downwards so Mary cannot stand even with support at the moment and she is receiving intensive physio to see if this can be reversed.

An OT has been working with Mary, to see if her trying to communicate can be more consistent and look at how she is tracking objects and taking things in. Mary also continues to be seen by a neurologist who tracks any progress Mary is making.

Mary also seems to be enjoying her music therapy - both with a music therapist at the Marillac and the lovely CD compilations that continue to pour through her / my letter box.

The care Mary receives continues to be amazing, including this little Easter card and basket which someone supported Mary to make for us all. No doubt if Mary was able she would have made these as well as several batches of hot-cross buns and thrown a boat-race party today - that would be after working a double shift at the Times and playing a music gig over the bank holiday no doubt!
