Drinking habits

It was 5 weeks ago today that Mary was involved in a cycling accident on her way to work. On that Friday morning she sustained serious injuries to both her legs, right arm and pelvis, but crucially she also lost massive amounts of blood. This has been one of the most crucial factors for her rehabilitation and to help her body regenerate itself and fight infection.

On the day she was taken into hospital Mary received over 18 units of blood (a unit is about 450ml and the average human body holds about 11-12 units... we are getting better at biology these days).

Mary also receives a unit every few days if she has lost blood through her wounds, operations or through the many blood tests the doctors do to make sure they are on track of what's happening in her body.

A few people, conscious of Mary's blood drinking habits, have decided to donate blood, at least to make up Mary's dent on the country's supply!
