Mary is in the best hospital in the country for trauma care – and was the first patient in the new building – never one for messing around.
Mary is currently showing signs of waking by opening and closing her eyes, which has been a steady progression, but she remains unconscious.
Neurologists do not think Mary is currently aware of what is going on. This of course will be another first for her, but it also means she is not agitated or confused right now, nor irritated by the fact she won’t be able to speak to us. As her sister it is quite disconcerting to be able to say anything I like to her without her arguing back.
Ultimately there are no concrete answers on Mary’s recovery now, and it is far to early to say for sure from a medical perspective.
Her current situation could continue for weeks or months - clouded by frequent infections and fevers, and operations for the serious wounds and broken bones she has. These all tend to send her heart rate and temperature up and, where infections linger, slow down her healing processes and bring further complications.
If anything significant happens we will give news in the way we think most appropriate - to family and close friends first of all, and later on posting stuff here.
(credit for artwork goes to Ariel aged 4 for 'Mary the Rainbow Fairy', a beautiful likeness, although currently Mary's hands are looking a little healthier - incase you wondered)

I think Mary will very much appreciate the fact that this blog shares its name with Dr Karl Kennedy's band: http://www.waitingroomband.com/
ReplyDeleteThanks very much for putting this up..... I know there are people from countries all over the world who are very eager to hear any updates on Mary so a website such as this, I think, is a lovely idea.
