Little movements

Mary seems to be much more comfortable in the rehab centre than she had previously been in hospital. In the few days she has been there, although there has been no change to her medication, she has already shown some voluntary movements in her right hand and her upper body.

Mary has progressed out of hospital gowns into civvies. Obviously most of her outfits aren't suitable for gym inductions and wheelchair races, so the heels have had to stay at home, but some lovely Mary outfits have found their way out of the wardrobe, no wonder she looks more comfortable...

Mary has a wheelchair designed to be especially comfortable for her and has begun to sit out which others at the centre in front of daytime TV (which, like most of us, sends her to sleep pretty quickly).

Mary has had an infection on an area of skin on her leg following the last operation, This is clearing up and her legs are looking much better. She is still having some sickness when she is moved. Its not clear quite why this is. I know many of you pray often for Mary, so please continue to pray that Doctors can find out why this sickness occurs and find a way to stop it to keep Mary’s energy and nutrition up.

As part of her therapy, a speech therapist is trying to get Mary to respond to familiar images and objects. Many of you have already sent photos in, if you would still like to please make them quite large, as its harder for Mary to focus on smaller objects (say A4). Alternatively, you can email them to me if that’s easier, laurajoyfawcett@gmail.com Please put your name (and any description of what is going on in the photo) on the back.

Mary will be at the centre for a 12 week assessment initially. After this time there is the option of her staying another 12 weeks, subject to funding and her progress, or being transferred to another centre.

  2. Across the pond...just found this website while searching about cyclist and cycling female bloggers. My wife and I read Mary's story and are keeping you all in our thoughts as we go about our daily lives, not taking any moment for granted. Wishing you all the best.
