New Beginnings

So I couldn’t wait to see Mary this weekend. Not only did I want to see her free of the tracheostomy (real progress), but I was bursting to share my excitement at the birth of Aahana Hope, our beautiful niece.

A lovely sunny day, we wheeled Mary down to the beautifully kept gardens for some fresh air and sunshine. I sat beside her and regaled her with news of Aahana. I was really touched by the number of people who stopped by to say hello to Mary, one lady in particular whose son is in Mary’s ward planted a big kiss on her cheek saying how special she was and that she must be judging by the number of visitors she gets!

Having the tracheostomy removed appears to have initiated a turning point in Mary’s progress. She appears more aware and also more relaxed somehow, more like Mary. Her eyes are tracking well and she holds your gaze much more definitely when spoken to. The infection in Mary’s left leg continues to be kept under control and her new set of wheels are practically ready. So in just barely 4 weeks (since the last doctor’s report) things are starting to look a little brighter and we continue to hope.
